Kwanza Osajyefo and Tim Smith 3 have created a whole universe from the ground up. Fighting off Comicsgate and naysayers, these creators have built a comic book universe that is destroying the competition.
Trolls, beware; no one cares about what you have to say here.
Kwanza Osajyefo at New York City Comic Con 2018
When BLACK first was announced through Kickstarter in 2016, the buzz surrounding it rippled through the comic book world. There are even talks of a film franchise coming out in the future. Kwanza touches on what it’s like to have a comic that is not only becoming a film but is also studied in classrooms across the country.
However, Kwanza reveals to us that BLACK is only the first arc in the three-part series. The BLACK team announced the week of NYCC the second arc to the series, WHITE. This story will be similar to the set of events from BLACK but will take a whole new perspective.
We also got to talk to Kwanza about his newest project from Humanoids publishing. Working with Mark Waid, IGNITED is sure to be a story of epic proportions. IGNITED will focus on issues going on right now in the world. Every consequence in this world will have lasting effects.
Kwanza tells us about the BLACK AF universe, covering BLACK AF: WIDOWS & ORPHANS. Kwanza tells us about incorporating Asian culture into literature and what research goes into it. He gives us insight and talks a little about his time living in Japan. We also get a little bit about a new arc for the BLACK AF series, BLACK AF: DEVIL’S DYE. The story will indirectly (or perhaps even directly) address the issues of drugs within the black communities. However, there are dire consequences for the empowered Black citizens. Written by Vita Ayala with art by Liana Kangas, the story is sure to be the perfect addition to the BLACK universe.
Be sure to check out any of the comics from the BLACK universe! They’re all absolutely amazing, detailed, and real af.
